On 10th December 2024, the United Generations for Social Transformation (UGEST) proudly welcomed War Child Alliance to its offices in Mbarara City for the Uganda Localization Hub update and due diligence exercise. This milestone event highlighted UGEST’s commitment to strengthening partnerships that enhance humanitarian responses in Uganda.
The collaboration follows UGEST’s successful application to participate in the Uganda Localization Hub initiative. War Child Alliance announced the selection of 30 local Women, Youth, and Refugee-led organizations, including UGEST, to join this transformative program. The initiative is designed to enhance the capacity of local organizations in delivering quality, locally owned, and sustainable protection assistance to vulnerable populations, particularly refugees and host communities.
The Uganda Localization Hub
Supported by the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM), the Uganda Localization Hub aims to bridge capacity gaps and empower local actors to take a leading role in humanitarian interventions. The program offers extensive mentoring, training, and support to participating organizations, enabling them to improve governance, financial management, project implementation, and more.
UGEST’s Role and Commitment
As an organization rooted in inclusivity, transparency, and social justice, UGEST is excited about this opportunity to enhance its impact. During the due diligence exercise, UGEST’s leadership team, board members, and staff demonstrated their readiness by showcasing organizational policies, strategies, and ongoing programs.
UGEST Executive Director- Mweteise Owen, expressed enthusiasm, stating: “This partnership aligns with our mission to empower communities through sustainable development and social equity. We look forward to learning and growing through the Localization Hub to better serve the most vulnerable especially women and children.”
Next Steps
Following the due diligence exercise, UGEST anticipates formalizing its participation in the Localization Hub through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and engaging in the orientation program starting January 2025. This partnership will bolster UGEST’s ability to address critical needs, including mental health and psychosocial support, gender-based violence prevention, and child protection.
We extend our gratitude to War Child Alliance for their continued support and commitment to strengthening local organizations. Together, we can build resilient communities and foster lasting change.
